F/T: CHARLTON 5 SWINDON 1
Swindon Town's youngsters saw their FA Youth Cup run end at The Valley on Tuesday night going down 5-1.
A footballing masterclass from Charlton Athletic had seen The Addicks cruise into an early 4-0 lead before Ben Joyce grabbed a consolation before the break on a bitterly cold evening in South East London
Callum Kennedy captained the side with Ben Joyce, who scored both goals against Middlesbrough in the previous round, partnering Jake Hyde up front.
The home side kicked off and were immediately on the attack. A quick break on two minutes could have seen he Addicks open the scoring, although Joe Smith was in the right place at the right time to cut out the attack.
Charlton had the ball in the net with three minutes gone, although an offside flag saw Ben Godfrey's effort ruled out.
With just seven minutes on the clock, Charlton were ahead. A cross in from the right was struck by Danny Uchechi who saw his shot parried by Mark Scott in the Town goal. The ball fell loose to Jonjo Shelvey who rifled home into the corner from eight yards.
Soon after Shelvey saw another effort well saved by Scott with Charlton romping forward. Shelvey then eased his way through past two Town defenders but could only shoot wide.
The home side nearly doubled their advantage with 16 minutes played. A superb cross in from the right saw Danny Uchechi find space inside the box but his first time volley was brilliantly turned away by Scott in the Swindon goal.
It didn't take long for Steve Gritt's side to double their lead though. After another quick break, Charlton fed the ball wide and after Joe Smith's clearance hit the uprights, goalscorer Shelvey was on hand to fire home for his second of the night with 19 minutes played.
Uchechi, involved heavily from the start, saw his overhead effort strike the bar five minutes later before Scott Wagstaff, the Charlton Captain, lobbed Scott for a third from the edge of the box.
It was four on 25 minutes after another defensive mix-up. Scott did well to make the initial save but the ball only fell to Ben Godfrey who had the simple task of rolling the ball into the empty net.

Swindon grabbed a goal back on 32 minutes. After a good move down the left, a cross in from Adam Everiss resulted in a misunderstanding between centreback Mambo and keeper Woodley. The ball rolled onto the post before Ben Joyce finished well with his left foot from close range on the angle.
After successive corners eleven minutes before the break. Macklin's ball into the box found Joe Smith who could only divert the ball wide from six yards out.
Half-Time: Charlton Athletic 4 Swindon Town 1
The second half opened with a first booking of the evening for Adam Everiss just moments after the restart. Charlton almost added a fifth on 47 minutes with Ben Godfrey seeing his header fly narrowly over.
Ben Joyce tried his best to reduce the arrears with a 53rd minute run. His shot from 25 yards distance was straight at Wooley who gathered.

It was 5-1 to the home side with 54 minutes on the clock. Captain Scott Wagstaff helped himself to his second goal of the evening. After cutting in from the right, Wagstaff jinked inside two challenges before seeing his left foot shot curl into the bottom corner.
Town boss Paul Bodin made his first change of the night on 53 minutes with Will Evans replacing Joe Smith. Evans slotted into a midfield role with Hammonds dropping back into the heart of defence.
Nathan Thompson came off the bench on the hour, replacing Lloyd Macklin on the right flank. The final change of the evening for Swindon came on 77 minutes with Danny Wallington entering the fray in place of Adam Everiss on the left wing.
Thompson had made a lively impact since coming off the bench and he saw his 83rd minute drive fall the wrong side of the post. Substitute Callum O'Shea saw a 30 yard drive well saved by Scott on the stroke of full-time, before the referee blew his whistle to bring an end to the encounter.
Charlton Athletic will now face Sunderland at The Valley on Wednesday 27th February 2008, with a 7pm KO.
