A double-strike from former Aston Villa front man Ben Joyce secured a three points for Town's reserves on Tuesday lunchtime.

Swindon Town named a strong side to take on their Bristol Rovers counterparts on Tuesday lunchtime. Chris Allen and Michael Pook returned from injury whilst the visitors included former Town winger Sammy Igoe and veteran centreback Steve Elliott.

The game began brightly for Swindon with striking partnership Moses Ashikodi and Ben Joyce seeing much of the ball early on.

Ashikodi could have opened the scoring on 11 minutes could only shoot high and wide from what was a difficult angle. The on-loan Hornet then turned his marker brilliantly before firing agonisingly wide four minutes later.

Sofiene Zaaboub, who started on the left of a four-man midfield, was enjoying a good supply of ball from the likes of Williams and Nicholas and caused a number of problems for the visitors rear guard.

For Rovers Ryan Paddock saw his ambitious lob fall just wide on 24 minutes before Lloyd Macklin shot wide at the other end with both sides still trying to break the deadlock.

A Chris Allen volley on the half hour saw Swindon go close again before Steve Elliott did well to head over a Zaaboub cross from the left.

Town were awarded a penalty on 58 minutes. After a foul on Sofiene Zaaboub, Moses Ashikodi fired home the spot kick to send his side into the lead.

Just after the hour Ashikodi almost doubled the lead with a neat turn and shot, but saw his effort fly over.

Michael Pook and Andy Nicholas both went close before Swindon did double their tally for the afternoon.

A neat finish from striker Ben Joyce made it 2-0 on 70 minutes before the former Plymouth Argyle and Aston Villa youngster grabbed his second. After Ashikodi had played Pook through, the midfielder unselfishly squared the ball to Joyce who tapped the ball into the empty net.

The Town coaching team then introduced a number of substitutes with Nathan Thompson, Callum Kennedy and Kurt Hammonds all enjoying a run-out in what was a comfortable win for Swindon.
