Swindon Town boss Maurice Malpas admitted he is happy with a home start against Tranmere Rovers.

The opening game of the campaign opens with Tranmere Rovers the visitors to The County Ground with Maurice explaining his views to Swindontownfc.co.uk

"I am happy that we kick off the new season at home. I am delighted to have the home start," he said.

"Tranmere are a side we played towards the end of last season and it was quite a close game. That's in the past and with a different look to our team I am sure we will have improved since then.

"August is a good month for us and there isn't too much traveling to do which is a bonus."

There are a number of big games throughout the 2008/09 campaign with the likes of Leeds United and Leicester City joining League One after relegation from the Coca-Cola Championship.

Whaddon Road: Swindon visit for first away game

"The Leeds games come at nice times and of course the games at Leicester will be ones that our fans will be looking forward to.

"Peterborough United for our last game is a tricky one but to be honest we will treat every game of the season the same. They will all be important and hopefully when we get to May we are still involved in the shake-up.

"To be honest I am desperate to get started now," he finished.
