An 88th minute equaliser from Captain Hasney Aljofree was enough to seal a point at Gillingham in what was Swindon's final away clash of the season.
Swindon Town made one enforced change to their line-up for what was the final away League One encounter of the season at Gillingham.
Hasney Aljofree returned to the line-up at centreback with Jamie Vincent moving out to a more familiar left-back slot. Miguel Comminges missed out after sustaining a calf injury during the midweek win at Bristol Rovers.
Ben Joyce and Sean Morrison were included amongst the substitutes with Chris Allen also returning to the bench.
The home side went into the game needing a victory to give themselves hope of avoiding the drop from League One and they made the perfect start to the game. A free-kick from the experienced Nicky Southall fell invitingly for Garry Richards who headed home in off the post to open the scoring.
Swindon responded with a corner two minutes later but were unable to take advantage with McGovern's centre catching the wind and floating harmlessly out of play.
Gillingham then had a chance at the other end on eight minutes although Simeon Jackson's low shot was easily gathered by Brezovan.
Lee Peacock should have drawn Town level on eleven minutes but was unable to make the most of an excellent opportunity. Through on goal to the right hand edge of the area, the striker's shot flew wide of the left hand post and the danger was gone.
The Gills were, as expected, full of energy and went close again on 14 minutes with left-back trying his luck from distance but saw his effort fly over before Cox lifted an effort over at the other end a minute later.
Further chances followed for the home side with Simon King's header flying over before Jackson almost doubled the lead. A long kick upfield from Derek Stillie saw Brezovan race out of his area to head away, but his attempted clearance fell to Jackson who could only lift the ball wide of the empty net from 22 yards.
The home side almost struck through their own net on 29 minutes with goalscorer Richards hacking a cross over his own bar from close range.
Jerel Ifil was forced off on the half hour with after taking a knock with 17-year old Sean Morrison coming on to make his debut at centreback. Jackson then fired straight at Brezovan with Swindon looking to settle after the defensive switch.
Lee Peacock was the first player of the afternoon to be cautioned as he was booked on 38 minutes for dissent.
Swindon were fortunate not to have had a penalty awarded against them on 42 minutes as Jack Smith seemed to trip Mulligan inside the box. The resulting free-kick from Southall was plucked out of the top corner by Brezovan as Town survived.

Town made no changes to their line-up at the break, with Sean Morrison and Hasney Aljofree resuming their central defensive partnership.
A defensive slip from the visitors handed Gillingham the first real opportunity of the half. Simeon Jackson strode through into the box but saw his low drive roll wide of Brezovan's left hand post.
Centreback Danny Cullip was cautioned on 57 minutes after taking out Simon Cox as Swindon tried to break. Timlin's centre seemed destined for Cox, only for the home side to clear.
A spectacular 30 yard half volley from Lee Peacock sailed harmlessly over on the hour with Swindon's chances few and far between as the second half progressed.
The home side made their first change of the afternoon on 67 minutes with Dennis Oli coming on in place of Gary Mulligan in the front line. Billy Paynter was then introduced for Swindon with Anthony McNamee making way.
Paynter was soon into the game as he headed straight at Stillie on 70 minutes after a deep cross into the box from Vincent.
A long throw from substitute Morrison set up a Town attack with eleven minutes to go. The ball flew across the face of the box and was headed down to Timlin who saw his powerful drive deflected away for a corner.
Town ended the game with four strikers on the field with Ben Joyce replacing Jack Smith with four minutes of normal time remaining.
The equaliser arrived on 88 minutes with Hasney Aljofree stabbing home from close range. A corner from J-P McGovern was headed down by substitute Sean Morrison for Aljofree who fired home.
