Earlier this week Rockin' Robin took part in the 9th Mascot grand National at Huntingdon Rasecourse.

Swindon's chirpy mascot was amongst 52 furry friends in this chaotic race, to be crowned the fastest mascot in the World.

Rockin commented before the race, "I'm a bit like a toothless budgie, I just want to succeed!"

Mr Robin had adopted a win at all costs policy, and wasn't worried about "foul" play, as he insisted.

"I'm a robin, not a Chicken, Robins are not Fowl, we are of the garden bird variety!"

The race was eventually won by Wacky Macky Bear from Saffron Waldon FC, who claimed his prize of a pint of John Smiths beer.

"I wasn't interested in the beer," Rockin commented, "It would only make me fall off my perch, and I would be as sick as a parrot!"

So another year gone and still no medals for the bird from SN1 - maybe 2008 will bring some running luck - "Yes 2008, I think its the Chinese year of the robin, so I will be flying down the course next year!"
