2004/05
Two defeats in the opening two games suggested Town were suffering from a play-off hangover not even the strongest of Alka Seltzers could cure. Yet four wins in four, including a win away at West-Country rivals City - soon put Town back on the right track to challenge once again.
The club's main problem was replacing Tommy Mooney, who had defected to Oxford in the summer. A popular move I'm sure you'll remember.
Andy King found solace in the form of Darius Henderson, who joined on loan from Gillingham. Unfortunately a permanent deal couldn't be arranged for the striker who hit five goals in six games and Town struggled to find the same potency that had seen them reach the play-offs a year earlier.
Town then won one from the next five - and this would prove to be the way Town's season would develop - consistently inconsistent. Michael Proctor, Jamie Slabber and Lloyd Opara all came and went without making an impact. That said, Opara found his way to Chelsea for what was an unsuccessful trial spell.
Another five-goal thriller against Sheffield Wednesday, this time Town on the right side of a 3-2 win came before the Owls were put to the sword in the FA Cup. Town's run was ended with another horror show, however, this time against Notts County and it was such indifference that led to another mid-table finish.
3-0 winners one week, 3-0 losers the next - it wasn't enough to retain Sam Parkin's services any longer. After a 1-1 draw on the last day of the season Super Sammy waved an emotional farewell before heading East to Ipswich.
